It’s important to note that in between coaching sessions your can continue to grow and develop yourself using self-reflection and inner dialogue. This self-coaching is the capacity to reflect & utilize your wisdom and judgement as well as your experiences to decide what is right or best for you in any situation.
You can monitor your progress as you take steps to develop new desired habits, behaviours and/ or achieve your goals. Itcan also help yourself to stay focused. The actions you take or have taken form the foundation and help to shape your life.
The most challenging question in self-coaching is identifying the changes that need to be made in your life, in for example the area of health, wealth, financial, relationships, wellness, spiritual or professional.

Based on the goal, use a coaching Model, i.e. GROW, which helps you to cultivate the process self-regulation and self-motivation.
When we are talking about our growth and development, self-coaching is a process to help you get from where you are to where you want to be. There are a wide variety of effective models that can help you change anything in your life. For example the GROW Model, which help you understand your circumstances, thoughts, feelings, actions, and results in the work environment.
One of the most effective and powerful tools in our toolbox is a tool for discovering your own thinking, emphasizing self-reflection and inner dialogue. The basic premise here is that your thoughts produce your feelings, your feelings lead to action, and your actions create your results.
Learning and guiding yourself through a focused approach sets an example of a self-coaching practice – a skill worth cultivating. Its’ purpose towards happiness, feeling content, and achievement comprising of five simple steps used by asking relevant questions to yourself around Preparation, Respect, Implementation, Sharing and Maintaining.
P: Preparation is around defining the Purpose
R: Respecting the current Reality
I: Implement the Involvement
S: Share Plan of Action
M: Maintain Self-Motivation
The 5 DIMENSIONS
First Dimension starts with ‘Preparation around defining the Purpose, i.e. involves the – The Why – You can ask yourself what is so important for you around achieving this new goal. Followed by what’s your plan and start to write down the desired objective.
The second dimension is ‘Respecting reality’, this helps to raise your self-awareness. It is helpful to determine where you are now and how big the gap is to where you want to be. It can be a good idea to interview some people close to you and ask them for input on where they think you are based on what they observe you do (your actions) and/ or say. Furthermore it can help you understand the obstacles you might face and develop a strategy on how to tackle these.
The third stage is ‘Implementing’ the Involvement, i.e. elaborating the purpose of your need as a continuous, ongoing or end-state oriented / only one-time intervention.
The fourth dimension involves ‘Sharing’ a plan of action, i.e. helping generate the efforts required to develop and implement the planned action. The objective of this dimension is to validate actions for short-term or long-term purposes.
The last dimension focuses on ‘Maintain’ Self Motivation, i.e. Self Motivation is needed to achieve your goal to ensure you engage in an action solely because you enjoy it and get personal satisfaction from it.
Anyone can use the model using these five steps. It can help you with formulating your purpose, when going through a transformation or when encountering a problem.
Coach yourself by using the following open-ended questions like:
- What are the areas I wish to develop in?
- What is it that I want to change?
- What has worked for me in the past?
- What has not worked that well for me in the past?
- What is the first step that I can take?
- What would work for me right now?
- What are any past patterns I need to consider, for myself?
- How will I measure my succes
- What is driving me to do it in a different way?
And of course you know our favourite question by now How will you celebrate your success?
